Artist Biography
With the release of the Farwell Avenue EP, Claire Kelly brings a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with addictive progressions, dream like vocals, and an alt pop edge, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie pop anthems. Though the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.
The first single release, “The Coffee Song”, is folk pop perfection. Complete with piano hooks, and a catchy chorus, the song seems to breathe and build as it plays on. “This song captures a late night in a coffee shop that turned into something greater. The breezy, upbeat melody is representative of the early stages of love. This love in particular, fueled by caffeine,” explains the songwriter of her single.
Although the single does speak volumes for the album, to get a real understanding of where Kelly is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.
“The "Farwell Avenue" EP has just been released (June 29, 2016). This EP begins with heartbreak, moves to relentless independence and dives into dream chasing. Writing and recording this particular collection of music helped me realize and pushed me to chase what I love,” says Kelly on the meaning behind her release.
Hailing from Cary IL, songwriter Claire Kelly grew up singing in choirs. She began writing music in the early high school years, singing melodies to a friend who played the guitar. Together they recorded an album and performed at the school talent show. Claire soon picked up the guitar and began writing on her own. Kelly didn’t really start performing on stage until attending college at Marquette University. Being that Marquette wasn’t a music school, she quickly became a token campus musician playing for school sponsored events, music showcases and student run shows.
Throughout her college years, she spent the summers playing shows in Lake Geneva, Waukesha and Milwaukee. Soon she began recording her own material and releasing them as EP’s and albums while she kept her live performances up to over 100 shows per year. Being that live performances are a heavy passion for the songwriter, she is always gigging normally as she writes material for upcoming releases.
Over the years, Kelly has had the opportunity to perform at Milwaukee’s Summerfest, the BMO Bradley Center, Mo’s Irish Pub, Linneman’s, Lake Lawn Resort, The Tosa Farmer’s Market, Puddler’s Hall, Cedarburg Wine & Harvest Fest, Walworth County Fair, Milwaukee’s Bastille Days, Cedarburg’s Summer Sounds and Chill on the Hill.
Since her songs have seen airtime on 102.1 FM, 106.1 FM, 88NINE Radio Milwaukee and college radio stations throughout the Midwest, the songwriter has a supportive community of listeners behind her.
The Coffee Song is available for streaming and downloads on most digital outlets and Kelly is planning to continue touring around Wisconsin promoting the new EP from now until September.
No matter the venue, her music has always been about sharing her positive outlook on life and making people smile. She's a singer, a songwriter and an optimist
