Artist Biography
While most bands' stories begin in the heart of an urban jungle, Meadowhawks story begins in Upstate NY's wilderness and their sound has never left there. Formed in the heart of the Hudson Valley, the members of Meadowhawks met while attending Bard College and came together after singer/guitarist (and drummer during recording) Ryan MacLean wrote what would become the group's eclectic debut EP. MacLean sought to marry his love of hook driven indie/garage rock with jazz harmony to form a sound as mammoth as the Catskill Mountains themselves. Released on July 20th 2014, the band's debut EP was recorded at Rhinebeck NYs Clubhouse Studios (the room responsible for The National's 'Trouble Will Find Me') and mastered at NYC's Sterling Sound. In the words of music blog The Equal Ground: "Through these four songs the band successfully defines their own sound that will resonate with anyone who has an appreciation for well-written indie pop."
In the fall of 2014, Meadowhawks embarked on a hugely successful fall tour which included shows at Brooklyn's The Trash Bar, O'Brien's Pub in Boston, Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia and a well received set at Hastings NY's Take Me to the River Festival. The band plans on continuing its momentum into 2016 by releasing its 2nd EP, "Wild Suburbia," which was recorded at Woodstock NY's Dreamland Studios in 2015. To support the EP MacLean and bassist Dan Vernam will be embarking on Meadowhawks' first California tour with many more dates to be announced. No matter what stage they stomp on or what they create in the studio, Meadowhawks core philanthropy is not only to prove music's colorful vitality, but to propel it into the future. You're in for a wild ride ladies and gents.

MEADOWHAWKS (NY INDIE ROCK) ANNOUNCE
NEW EP 'WILD SUBURBIA' + CALIFORNIA SHOWS
From out of the Upstate NY wilderness comes Meadowhawks' fierce second EP 'Wild Suburbia,' which will be released on February 1st 2016. Played entirely by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ryan MacLean, the EPs four songs are a sonic and lyrical portrait of uncertain 20somethinghood pierced by distorted 12 string guitars and tribal drums. The EP was recorded at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock NY; a converted church that has served as the birthplace of classic albums by groups such as Dinosaur Jr, B52s ('Love Shack'), The National and Fleet Foxes amongst others. At the helm of these recordings were acclaimed engineers Bella Blasko and Connor Milton.
Fans can stream the first single 'Social Network Apocalypse' on the band's website, Soundcloud and Bandcamp in the week leading up to the release. Beneath the song's gentle duo-harmonies and acoustic guitars lies seething lyrics about overzealous student loan collectors and social media privacy. Like the wilderness itself, these songs showcase Meadowhawks' ability to make the listener expect the unexpected both stylistically and lyrically. Other songs on the EP such as 'Sweet Liberty' combine everything from danceable Garage rock and jazz chords to Brazilian drum rhythms in one song.
To promote the release MacLean along with Dan Vernam will be embarking on Meadowhawks' first ever tour of California, with dates planned across the Bay Area and in Los Angeles. The EP will be available to purchase at shows as a Double EP containing both 'Wild Suburbia' and Meadowhawks' first self-titled EP. 'Wild Suburbia' will be available in the same Double EP format on Itunes, Spotify, Tidal and all other online services. Summer dates on the East Coast will be announced in the months to come!
