Artist Biography

French lyrics, music flavors from all around the world and African styles rhythms. It’s different, it’s catchy and it’s unifying. This is HERLÉO!

HERLÉO has four albums to his credit and he has performed hundreds of shows in both, Canada and abroad. He is finalist in the 2009 Trille Or awards in four categories such as best album, best male artist, best lyricist-composer-performer and best video clip. He is recipient of the 2011 COCAN Awards price for best album. He is also finalist, in 2013, in the African Entertainment Awards of Toronto for the Best Male Artist category. Then he wins the 2014 Best Album of African diaspora of Ontario. Herléo made it again In 2015, by being nominated at the Trille Or awards for “Most Successful Franco-Ontarian Artist or Group outside the Province”.

HERLÉO is at a crossroad: born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and raised in Canada, he ensures resolutely his place in Canada’s music industry. Therefore, he soaked up those two cultures, listened to various styles of music and continually evolved in two very different worlds. This dual identity has made him who he is today: an artist of Folk/Afro-Pop/World music. He created a mix of North American urban music, dotted with pop influences, seasoned with flavors of world music, especially from Africa and Latin America. His innovative sounds are greeted with enthusiasm by his listeners. HERLÉO is now one of the ambassadors of French-speakers in Ontario and in Africa, where the artist is currently carving out a good place for himself.

HERLÉO is constantly evolving, thanks to his numerous travels around the world (Canada, Europe, Africa) but also thanks to many fascinating people he have met and worked with (Tiken Jah Fakoly, Sans Pression, Tricia Foster, François Grégoire (Kodiak), Bisso Na Bisso, Magic System, Rose Ékosso Erta, ZPN, Le R, Lexxus Legal etc.). And this is just the beginning!

Press Release

Montréal, the 1st of Mai 2015 – VALEUR D’OR is the name of HERLÉO’s new album that contains thirteen original songs, each of them more melodious than the last. The album, VALEUR D’OR, is definitely an ode to love, central idea of this fourth opus from HERLÉO, available May 16. All of HERLÉO comes together through the thirteen pieces of VALEUR D’OR, and you will feel how complete he became. He is going back and forth between completely different styles in order to give us this world album, with Afro and Latino influences.
The first single, Zoba, is written entirely (music and lyrics) by HERLÉO. It is a festive and unifying song with a committed text as is usual with HERLÉO . Indeed, it denounces various ills that affect Congolese society, his native country, and raises his compatriots for a change of mentality
This first song kicks off HERLÉO’s album VALEUR D’ORVALEUR D’OR is a joyful and relaxed album, where love is celebrated in different ways by its lyricist-composer-performer.
Directed by Raymond Kashiba, this fourth opus, with folk/Afro pop flavor, is way less political and much more social. This tendency is reflected in the song ENFANT SORCIER (that brings out the child abuse phenomenon, very common in Africa); a title written during a writing and inspirational trip in Africa, like all songs of the album.  Furthermore, HERLÉO’s fans will discover a brand new www.herleo.net, revamped to be simple but efficient, where they can have updates on the artist’s world.
In Canada, the album will be only available in digital version. Only 2000 physical editions will be on sale, after the artist’s shows. Everywhere abroad it will also be in digital version, except in some major Capitals in Africa, where VALEUR D’OR will be launched. It is also the first album since his recent signing with American record label, Sugo Music
HERLÉO will be available for sale on May 12 and its official release will be on June 14 in Montreal and in Quebec City on June 28.
HERLÉO is available for some interviews. If you have any questions, or you would like to set up an interview, please contact his press secretary.
