Artist Biography
For the past decade Dave Woodcock has been carving out a reputation as one of the finest songwriters and most incendiary live performers around. First with his band Taste Of Shotgun whose prolific output (4 albums in 2 years) and legendary live performances caused a stir in the pre-New Yorkshire scene of the early noughties and then as a solo performer renowned for his passion and heart-on-sleeve balladry.
In 2007, he released the well received mournful solo album ‘Wednesday’s Child’ which was compared favourably with ‘the best of Leonard Cohen and Richard Hawley’. Backed by his band The Dead Comedians, 2009 saw the release of the acclaimed and award-winning ‘Omaha High Low’ an album which married his distinctive style to a sympathetic full band sound.
2011’s ‘Poisoned Nights and Bar Room Lights’ further expanded the band’s sound and received more widespread critical praise eventually picking up the Best Album award at the Sheffield Scenester Awards in 2012, beating out the likes of The Arctic Monkeys. Since then, the band has undergone some line-up changes and written a new collection of songs with a harder rock sound which culminated in recording the new album ‘Medicine’ at Sheffield’s prestigious 2fly Studios.

New single ‘At The Pharmacy’ was released online in December 2014 receiving praise from BBC Radio Sheffield: “Back with a bang…what a track!”
This new album is a powerful rush of rock n roll energy reflecting Woodcock’s rock music influences -ranging from mid-60s Dylan, 70s Springsteen, English punk like The Clash and The Sex Pistols and 80s American indie rock such as like The Replacements and Husker Du - while still maintaining his inimitable song-writing and performance style.
The Dead Comedians themselves comprise a who’s who of Sheffield music featuring guitarist Chris Saunders (also a renowned music photographer), Paul Hoyland (ex-6Needles) on bass and backing vocals, drummer Richard Hunter (currently working with up and coming indie rockers The Retrospectives) and Tommy Binks (former front man of The Alcoholics and acclaimed singer-songwriter in his own right) on guitar and vocals.
‘Medicine’ finds Dave Woodcock and The Dead Comedians firing on all cylinders and creating exciting, smart rock n roll which is sure to satisfy old and new fans alike.
